The reason I would like to join Year Up is because I think
this will be a great opportunity for me to not only learn new things but get
better at communicating with people and getting ready for the more professional
world. I believe that I will be a good candidate for this program because I have
the chance to prove to people that yeah life is hard but nothing is impossible
and even though we’ve all been through our fair shares of obstacles that it’s
important to stay strong and never give up because you will gain nothing if you
give up. I don’t know a better program that pays you for participating and also
learning at the same time and not only that but getting college credits as
well. Throughout my high school career it’s been tough for me, trying to stay
focused and getting my work done on time and staying on task, but as I got to
senior year things started changing for me. I take things more serious and I am
more mature and started taking college classes so I got a little experience on
how it feels to be a college student. Getting into the Year Up programs gives
you so many benefits; it’s the greatest opportunity I could ever reach for. I also
have a little knowledge about how this program works because I’ve intern in a
few places throughout my high school career, I’ve intern at places like the
Love 4 All on Elmwood working with 1st graders and helping them
learn better being there for when they needed someone, I’ve worked at a massage
therapy place in downtown providence on the front desk helping clients book
appointments and helping my manager with clients, also learning what massage
therapy is all about, I’ve worked at The Met high school on public street being
a secretary assistant I helped my boss create files, fax papers, answer phones
and organizing documents and last but not least I’m currently interning at
Miriam hospital helping the CNA’S assist patients and getting them water,
walking them to the bathroom even walking them around the hospital. I’ve had
fun doing many different internships and I’m always determined to learn many
more things and meet new people. I’ve also worked with the A Sweet Creation
organization with Pilar Mccloud and I’ve done many community services with her
and participated in many events as well. For my further studies I would love to
do the Year Up program and then do 1 more year here at CCRI in providence Rhode
Island and then transfer and finish the two years at Manhattanville College
where I’ve gotten accepted to. As my career I would like to be a registered
nurse, but also while I’m here in Rhode Island studying my two years I would
love to work and get on my feet and get my CNA license and I’ll be all set to
go when I go into the nursing field. My whole life I’ve been struggling with my
mom trying to maintain our happiness and trying to stay on our feet but it’s
been so hard especially when most of the problems I haven’t been able to do
anything because I’m only 17 years old, but I’ve been applying to many jobs and
studying a lot so I can stay on my two feet and keep my mom happy. I’ve been
struggling with my family on trying to help them out but good thing I turn 18
soon on July 2nd and I will hopefully be able to get into this
program. The reason why I’m doing this program is not mainly to learn new
things and take advantage of this but really to use this and all of my problems
as a motivation to move forward and give my mom something to be proud of and
also give myself something to be proud of. Dealing with a lot of things with my
family really brings me down and brings my confidence and self esteem down but
as I progress and do better things will get better for me and I know that
getting into this program will help me out a lot. I am looking forward to
seeing the results of this and learning as many things as I can and also
meeting new people and taking more opportunities of things like this. My goal
is to make my family proud and everybody around me and proving that anything is
possible.
